The Compressor

The compressor, along with the condenser fan motor help make up the outside condensing unit which is synonymous with Florida central air conditioning systems. Using a powerful pump action, the compressor pushes Freon or refrigerant through the entire AC system, absorbing heat from the air, and expelling it in the surrounding atmosphere.

The compression of the refrigerant around the condenser coils emits heat from the system and ultimately helps cool your home. The compressor is usually secured to a concrete, level slab beneath it and about 12 inches from the wall. Residential homeowners have access to several types of compressors including reciprocating compressors, scroll compressors, screw compressors, rotatory compressors and centrifugal compressors.
