Not sure where to start with AC installation?
One of the most important aspects of air conditioner installation is the size of the new central air system. If your AC unit is too small, it will run constantly. Too large an AC will short cycle, increasing humidity and restricting airflow. The right-sized system will run efficiently and develop less wear over time.
The size of the AC depends on the square footage of your home, your personal preferences, and a range of other factors (including the Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER)). When you work with Air Pros, our air conditioner installer will help choose from the following types of units:
- Medium: Designed for homes/rooms less than 1,000 square feet.
- Large: Suited for cooling/heating 1,000 to 2,000 square foot spaces.
- Expansive: Engineered to efficiently cool areas up to 3,000 square feet.

MEDIUM
Less than 1000 ft.

LARGE
1000 to 2000 ft.

EXPANSIVE
More than 3000 ft.
The AC Installation Process
Central AC installation can be complex. Preparing yourself ahead of time can help the process go smoother. It also helps to understand the condition of your existing system. Are any issues impacting performance? Is it cost-effective to fix them or will keeping your AC going eventually cost more than a new one?
- Removing your old system is the first hurdle to get past. You will require a licensed contractor to help because only a certified professional can evacuate refrigerant by law.
There are also complex, heavy components to work with, not to mention sophisticated electrical, piping, and ductwork connections. Only a seasoned professional has the skills and training to handle these safely and effectively. - With the old unit removed, the AC installation process can begin. Various connections, including those for your drainage, ductwork, and electrical system, may need to be adjusted or replaced.
Newer units may include different types of hookups. The technician will evaluate your electrical connections and may recommend upgrading the wiring or your electrical panel. - Air Pros will install your new air conditioner per the manufacturers' guidelines. Our professionals have the tools and equipment to install every component correctly and address any unexpected complications along the way.
- Charging the refrigerant is the next key step in installing a new unit. Refrigerant fluid is what enables heat to be transferred to or from your home.
- Lastly, your new air conditioning unit will be tested and your thermostat will be evaluated. If necessary, we'll suggest a more energy-efficient replacement.
Once this process is complete, your HVAC system will be ready for use. We'll set up a regular maintenance schedule to ensure that you get the maximum life expectancy of your air conditioning system.
Signs You Should Change Your AC Unit
Homeowners eventually face the choice of repairing or replacing their air conditioners. A home AC system can last up to 15 years, but you should consider a new air conditioner installation if:
Repair Costs Are High:
Compare the cost of a large repair (and potentially future repairs) along with energy bills and other operating costs, to what installing a newer, more efficient AC would cost.
Hot Air Is Blowing:
Unless the thermostat is at the wrong setting, hot air blowing from the vents is a reason to have a technician check your AC. It shouldn't take more than a few minutes to start cooling the air.
Increasing Utility Bills:
Higher utility bills are often a sign your HVAC equipment is outdated and not working efficiently. With a new AC, you can get more cooling while using less energy, which may lower your monthly bills.
Short Cycling:
If your AC is constantly turning on and off, the system may be having a hard time maintaining a set temperature. Ultimately, this will reduce comfort and strain major components.
Unusual Noises:
ACs should not screech, shriek, buzz, or make any other loud sounds. The sudden occurrence of these means there's a serious mechanical or electrical problem; call an HVAC technician to check it out.
Foul Odors:
If something smells burnt, then there's likely a wiring or other electrical problem. Musty odors often mean mold is growing in the AC unit, which is probably due to a leak or abnormal buildup of condensation.
If you experience any of these issues or otherwise believe it's time to replace your old AC, schedule a free estimate and Air Pros will handle your AC install
