Evaporator Coils

Evaporator cooling coils remove heat and humidity from the air using refrigerant. It’s housed within the air handler system of modern central air conditioners and help ensure the heat exchange process runs smoothly.

Evaporator Coil Operations

This manifest itself in the cool air you feel circulating in your home. It’s precise location in the air handler assembly is within the blower compartment which holds the cool Freon which is passed to it from the compressor.

The blower fan pushes air over the coil removing the heat from your indoor environment. The warmer refrigerant travels back outside to the condenser coil which expels it. Most of our clients require cooling systems which describes the process above. However, for those who require heating, a heat pump reverses the process during cold spells.

Ensuring the evaporator coil remains clean – free of dirt or clogging – is considered an essential element in keeping central air conditioning systems running smoothly. It helps remove humidity from the air before it reaches your living areas making it powerful subset of the overall air handling system. If dust or dirt do build up on the coil it can lead to the build-up of ice and thereby restricting air flow and home comfort.

The evaporator coil and condensing coil are two elements that can have a particularly negative effect on your system and your comfort if they become dirty or blocked.
